𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦: It shouldn’t take being an Olympic athlete to have access to healthcare.

The 19th reports that Ariana Ramsey, a US rugby team member, is sharing on social media that she’s making good use of the free access to healthcare available in the Olympic Village.

♀️ She got a pap smear.
😁She saw a dentist.
😎She saw an optometrist.
All things on the list for regular, preventative care.

For those of you who don’t know: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀:
🇺🇸 The US currently spends 17.3% of its GDP on healthcare annually. That works out to about $13,500/person.
🇫🇷 France spends 12.3% of its GDP, or about $5,500/person, on universal healthcare. That’s one of the highest rates among EU countries.

Yeah, America needs to do better.
